Recently I read White Night by Jim Butcher and I noticed Reiki mentioned. In the middle of a scene in chapter 24, the character Elaine claimed to be using Reiki on Dresden. Here’s a link to the entry in Google Books.
It’s awesome to see Reiki incorporated into fiction, especially in one of my favorite series. Of course, she’s not exactly doing it right since it comes across more like a foreplay/healing combo than just straight up healing. But, the teasing touch side fits well into the scene in the book. Plus, she added a bit of magic to it…I mean we are reading about wizards after all. And, you know, it’s fiction and all that—as if I wasn’t clear enough on that already.
Reiki practitioners keep their hands off the client. Some may be taught otherwise but to keep the possibility of a client misconstruing one’s touch, it’s safer to keep the hands up in the air. Clothes stay on too for that matter. With intimate relationships though? Hah. Well, let’s leave that up to the parties involved.
Have you seen Reiki incorporated into fiction too? If so, please let me know.
