Sometimes when I am working with cards, I will do a spread with one deck, then mimic the spread with another. I look back and forth between the cards and notice the differences and similarities. I try to see how the story changes by using different cards. I thought it would be fun to use that technique as a combined writing prompt and tarot exercise.
Here I’ve pictured the Fool from three different decks—Universal, Halloween, and Robin Wood.
First point out what’s the same between cards. Then look at how things are treated differently. Does it change the meaning of the card? If yes, how so. If no, why not?
After you examined each, write a description for each card. What is the figure in the card doing? What is the figure’s story? After you have a story for each one, compare them again. Find anything new? Do you think this will change how you read about the Fool?
