Tarot Writing Prompt: Christmas Hermit

This image is by Jytte Hviid and I came across it on her Etsy shop. You can also check out more of her work on Flickr. Check out the paper cutout Santa hermit too!

Santa makes a good hermit card to me. He is wise and knows your wants as well as if they are deserved wants. Heh. This image caught me eye because it is surrounded by the Knight of Wands and The Fool.  When Santa is busy delivering toys, he is usually depicted alone or with his reindeer. (Or being caught by child awake past his/her bedtime. :P ) But the placement of the cards around him creates the perception of him walking through a town. The Fool even seems to be staring at him with that “Is that really you, Santa?” expression. Yes, yes, I’m aware that The Fool is Santa too, but look at the images. See the differences in wisdom between the two? With the Hermit card there, The Fool looks like a regular old man, not Santa–at least to me….

Your writing prompt: Why is Santa in this town (why is the Hermit surrounded by people here?) Is he just passing through? Or does he have a purpose? Have one of the surrounding cards stop him an ask a question. What converstation ensues?

Another option would be to focus your prompt as if this were a spread in a reading. What does the Hermit’s position to the other cards mean here?

Enjoy!

And Happy Holidays! :)
