What about you? Have you ever made a Reiki craft? Only one I’ve done so far is to make Reiki charged candles. If you have others ideas for crafts please share!

What this means is that you can give them to friends who don’t yet know how to do Reiki for themselves. (You can’t be on call to perform Reiki 24/7 you know. ) I also like using them around my home, especially when I’m cramped for time and not able to spend as much time practicing self-Reiki as I would like. Plus, let’s just face it, they are pretty!

As Reiki practitioners though, we can charge our own candles. At home, I’ve charged up a few Yankee candle jars and a bag of tea lights. The type of candle doesn’t matter. Just pick something you like. And you can also find inexpensive candles in lots of places like craft stores and warehouse stores.

You can take it one step further by making your own candles too! I just started giving that a try. Pictured here are the results of my first attempt at making them.

The star and flower shaped ones are green apple scented. The yellow ones are made out of beeswax. I sent Reiki into them throughout the entire process. I started with the protection symbol as I would with any session. And I put in the intentions for them to release the Reiki energy when the candle is burned. You can also add in the intention of energy to be released when the candle isn’t burning or both. It’s totally up to you how you want to work that.

Oh, but I will suggest caution if you try this with the beeswax. I rolled them up and molded their shape but the Reiki energy made my hands so hot that the shape was hard to set. Every time I touch them, I softened the wax again. It’s actually kinda funny.

The other one pictured here is a coffee candle. It’s pretty much a disaster of a project but I thought to share it anyway. I have a lot to learn about making candles, but despite it’s less than perfect appearance, the Reiki energy is still flowing. And it smells yummy!

I work in New York City and once I get to the city, I walk about a mile and a half to work. Usually this was time spent dodging tourists and rattling off all the work I have to do when I get in the door. I’ve recently changed that by spending this time doing a walking meditation.

Here’s how it works. First I find the right tunes to help block out background noise. You don’t have to listen to music, but I find it helps me focus easier. Any music you like will do. This week I’ve been rotating between Depeche Mode’s Violator and R. Carlos Nakai’s Canyon Trilogy.

Next I start easing into a good pace. Once I get moving, I start reciting the protective symbols in my head, much as I would before beginning a Reiki session. Then I shift my intent to spreading the Reiki energy out from me and into the surrounding area. I change the symbols going by whatever direction my intuition takes me. At times I may stop reciting symbols and move on to focusing on the Reiki Ideals, or I may slip into a mantra “love, wisdom, and light.” Before I head into my office, I take a moment to say my thank yous for the Reiki energy.

What I like about it is that it allows me time to focus on some Reiki every day, even in my rushed schedule. My meditation goes as long as it does because of the distance I walk. But they can be short ones too…even just a minute or two! For example: when you are walking to your car in a parking lot. Oh, and if you don’t know Reiki symbols yet, you could just use the word “Reiki,” a mantra like I do with “love, wisdom, and light, ” or whatever words you find inspire you. And that’s that.

On my walk this morning, I wasn’t paying attention and turned right sooner than I should have. I didn’t notice until I was just about to step in front of the building where I learned Reiki. Funny how that happens. But it’s what inspired me to share this with you.
